Sounds like a mechanical problem - perhaps something (paper clip ???) is jammed in the mechanism.

Problem is, Laptop drives use real small screws .. even if you can get it apart without wreaking it, chances of putting one back together again is minimal.

Try to look into the drive with a bright lamp & see it you can spot something - otherwise swap out the drive.
