Why do aliens always want to come to earth and control us?
Of course I'm not talking about "E.T." or "Close Encounters of the Third Kind", but films such as "Independence Day" and "War of the Worlds".
Do we really have such a bad need to feel better than highly advanced extraterrestrial civilisations?
Independence day even puts a drunkard destroying an entire ship.
Isn't it time for a film in where aliens see that we can't stop fighting with each other and teach us something? It's always films like E.t. that stay in our minds. It's only those kind of films that fill us with something other than bloated up ego.
"Independence Day" just has a lot of explosions and make humans feel like the masters of the universe. And the u.s. president fighting against them? *looks at picture of Bush* ...............
Why aren't we, humans, for once, told that we still have a lot to learn and that we can't do many things right? Wouldn't that teach us something after we left the movie theatre?

Wouldn't we have something to aspire for?
Who cares if it doesn't have explosions? It can have lots of special effects...like the ships arriving and such...but explosions and u.s. armies and Nasa Astronauts saving the day?
I'm tired of that!

And another thing...why do U.S. presidents, in films, always give enlightning speeches?
Why don't you give that to Extraterrestrials?

We are just on the agenda, nothing personal

Aliens of any sort have always been good conflict material for narratives. That's how humanity has reacted to Others since pre-history. That's also one of the reasons we survived, like it or not. It's only by confronting the Alien in ourselves and others that we can eventually learn about and from them.

You left out "The Day the Earth Stood Still" from your pro-alien encounter list, as well as "It Came From Outer Space", by the way.

Leave us face it, movies are made by and for humans, not ETs. It's natural we would give the enobling speeches.

As Alfred Hitchcock once told Ingrid Bergman, "It's only a movie."

I think you are kinda reading into it a little too much. I'll probably get a thumbs down but anyhow...it is called entertainment. To have that glory of movie of the the year. To make movie history. Entertain the masses. I do not think that the creators of such films have a personal grudge against extraterrestrials.

I think you're taking it a little too seriously. Personally I like to know what I'm getting in to before I go to the movie. I wouldn't go to a movie like independence day expecting anything but big explosions and heroism on an epic scale. It is unfortunate that movies and television have gone from entertaining the masses to educating them. I hope there aren't too many people out ther there looking for morals in hollywood.
