Further to Sila's answer, most indigenous British people are aware that the immigrant populations are slowly eroding the British culture, helped along by the PC brigade. In the main the Brits are the most tolerant people in Europe, maybe the world, but they do feel threatened. For instance, we have a 'Black Police federation' should a 'White Police federation be put forward, there would be a huge backlash from the immigrant populations. The present government is trying very very hard to appease the ethnic minorities at the expense of the indigenous population.

YES why do you think there are/were so many Irish/Scots/English jokes around. There is a definate discrimination from Engish to the Scots and an awful lot of ignorance is the reason for it.
Mind you the english are none to keen on the Welsh.
The Americans arent in favour either, come to think of it the english aren't ot keen on any other culture. They don't even like themselves--I am told..

I am a foreigner, but I have been reading up on some of the challenges of integrating the Muslim minority in England and other countries. I have to say there is a problem with the leadership of the Muslim community, but at the same time, there is a lot of poverty and racism. They have been isolated from the mainstream and at the same time, their language, culture and religion are looked down upon. It is not surprising that in a recent survey of English Muslims, 40 percent supported the implementation of Islamic law and 70 percent of the men favoured women wearing the hijab or nijab.

Most of these immigrants come from Pakistan and India. Given the conditions in those countries, it is not surprising that people would feel alienated in a foreign culture. If the U.K. brought them over, they have a responsibility to help them in their own communities. More education and exposure to the mainland culture would help, along with better job opportunities and accommodations for them-e.g. English classes, bilingual education, Koranic schools, government-funded community centers, better housing, job placement programs, outreach for women, etc...
