In today's environment of rapid and immediate communication the 'general manager' is gradually disappearing (just like the Typists and Secretaries of yesterday).

Most Companies focus on a 'flatter leaner' structure and expect staff to be 'self managing'.

The only Managers left are specialists = for example in Technical & Sales eg. Project Managers, Product Managers, Marketting, Sales & Major Account Managers etc.
