You meet up with three of your close friends for dinner, you arrive a bit late due to work but none the less you show up. You order a bottle of beer and something small to eat just as everyone else has already finished their meal and drinks ( more than one drink for each of them as well as additional meal) Once you are done; you and the rest of your friends chat for another hour before asking for the bill.
When the bill comes one of your friends takes the bill and "figures out" what each person owes. What you have ordered comes out to be about $30 but are asked to chip in $90.
Do you think that it is fair for you to put in more money than for what you are suppose to pay???
Would like to to hear your opinion on this.

First, these people were not your friends. For them to do that to you was taking advantage of you. Friends don't do that. What we need is a societal rule which says that :unless someone is feeling very generous and is interested in picking up the bill for everyone, it's automatically separate checks for everyone. In fact, it should be that way anyway, and the generous one could just pick up (literally and figuratively), everyone's checks when it came time to pay. Wait help don't like that because they don't like to fill out separate checks, but that's too bad. It should never be assumed that one bill is appropriate.
Get yourself some new friends, decline future eating out invitations with these people, or make it clear when ordering how the bill will be paid.
I think it shows a lack of class for someone, or a group of people to sit in a restaurant figuring out who ordered what, who ate what, and who will pay for what. Separate checks solves the problem.

No its not fair but just do the same back if any one of your friends is late.

Next time order something quite pricey for yourself, it will make up for the amount which you were conned out of. Also, you will be able to see your friends reaction to this especially when they know you didn't care about the bill the last time.

I would politely tell my 'friend'(and I use the term loosely...'cause they aren't acting like a friend) to piss off. I will pay for what I ordered. I'm wondering tho...if they wanted you to pay $90.00, and assuming that is 1/4 of the bill...what in the world kind of dinner were you guys having....steak and lobster all around, with several drinks to wash it down? Holy crap!!! A $360.00 dinner for 4...that's a bit extravagant...isn't it?

each and all of the techniques from answerers are wonderful---as a one-time factor. i would not say your individuals are "proud" truly, i think of this is common. If I permit you take care of me, then i could do the comparable next time, in any different case I wouldnt experience mushy going out with you. this is merely how (smart) persons are. So I trust the quite a few others for you to do quite a few issues, like dinner at your homestead, and pass out to dinner in specific circumstances merely. i be attentive to this sucks, i like eating out besides, in spite of if it could at last grow to be a burden on them.

It is absolutely unfair for them to even ask you to chip in $90. Some friends you have. I would have thrown my $30 on the table and gotten out of there. That is absolutely absurd.

No,that really pisses me off when people do that. i don't mind putting in a little extra for tip and such, but no way would i pay $90 for $30 worth of food/drink.
If I lost friends over it, no big deal because obviously these friends were trying to rip me off in the first place.

no it wouldn't be fair. each person should have requested a separate check and paid for their own orders

I think everyone should pay for what they had. What is this chipping in stuff?

I understand your frustration, but I'd let it go just this one time. If it happens again, I'd blow the whistle.
