The Watchtowers refer to the elements and their corresponding directions, and are often called upon for protection when casting a circle. They are also referred to as Guardians, or the corners of the circle.
The most commonly used set of correspondences is: North - Earth, South - Fire, West - Water and East - Air.

Well, Wiccans have the Guardians of the Watchtowers. They're thought to be elemental spirits that are responsible for the 4 directions. In the North are the Gnomes, in the East are the Sylphs, in the South are the Salamanders, and in the West are the Undines. They're called upon for protection for each quarter of the circle by some Wiccans.

The four Archangels also have correspondences with the directions, Raphael, Michael, Uriel, Gabriel. But I'm not sure which is which for those.

Wicca has something very similar, although most wiccans call them the Guardians of the watchtowers. I'm pretty sure it's the same principal though. I would start researching there.
