My son is 2 weeks old and moves around like he is having a hard time digesting Enfamil with iron. Do you think a formula switch would help?

I tried virtually every kind of formula out there, including Soy and Genlease. We ended up needing to use hypoallergenic soy and lactose free Similac Alimentum (Enfamil Nutrimidgen is pretty much the same thing but we didn't like the powder as well, stuck to the bottle more). We also switched to Dr. Brown's bottles which helped tremendously. Even now that our little girl is 6 1/2 months old she can't tolerate any other formula or bottle, although she does do well with most foods.
I would talk to your doctor about it and try out Alimentum for at least a week. It made such a huge difference for our baby. The first 2 months of her life she spent horribly gassy and seemed like she was in a lot of pain from it. Once we made the right switch she was a completely different baby.

Try the enfamil gentlease first if it is just a digestion problem. First thing to remember is all baby's spit up some. If your baby is spitting up or vomiting alot then then try the gentlease. If your baby is spitting up what seems to be an abnormal amount then most likely is lactose intolerant then you will need the prosobee. My son was on enfamil prosobee because he was lactose intolerant. Like you he was 2 weeks old when we notice lots of problems, the big factor was projectile vomiting not just typical baby spit up. My daughter is on the enfamil with iron that contains the DHA and ARA. She is doing just fine but had decided if she had problems we were going to try the gentlease next because she was premature and actually started on similac neosure advance mixed with expressed breastmilk instead of water. Now you could never tell she was premature and she is only 10 months. Prosobee stains really bad when the baby spits up. I would try the gentlease first and see how your baby does. Good luck.

My daughter had formula problems and I could tell that she was very uncomfortable after eating. We tried every formula and eventually she was in the hospital and put on Pregestimil (made by Enfamil) it can be hard to find, I would only use it as a last resort. I think that the general way the dr's do it is to try a lactose free, then soy, then something like Alimentum or Nutrimagen. One of these should help, if not try the Pregestimil.

You would have to speak to your doctor on it being iron...they can check his iron levels to see if theyre way above normal than they would give you a prescription for a low iron formula. Otherwise it could just be the formulation of the formula doesnt sit well with him. My son started off on the regular goodstart with DHA and ARA then was switched to the soy version which considerably aided his digestion issues and colic. But, even after the switch he still had a tendency to spit up quite a bit. Once we switched to prosobee he basically stopped spitting up it was a godsend. Some formulas are just are harder for babies to digest for one reason or another, it wont hurt to try another just do it gradually and with your doctor knowing about it incase there are any adverse reactions. Goodluck.

each baby is different - your next child may not have any problems with colic and would do just fine with reg. enfamil formula. Breastfeeding would be the best milk to give. It naturally decreases the risk of having any problem associated with artificial milk and all babies (there is only 1 illness in infants that they can not breastfeed). But if you choose not to breastfeed and want to use artificial milk then I would use the gentle ease and not use soy formula (prosobee). Soy formula should be the last on the list.

My daughter had a hard time with the Iron. I switched her to the Gentlease and it made a world of difference. She was so much happier and it helped with her gas and poop. I hope this helps. Plus if you go to their website you can sign up for coupons and they are a tremendous help since formula is so expensive. Good luck and congrats on your new son.

I used Enfamil Gentlease because my son had bad gas. It worked great. :) I also switch his bottle to Dr. Brown. It was the best thing I ever did for him..I could tell my son had gas by trying to put him in a sitting position and he couldn't because he had soo much gas in his stomach..Good Luck!! A+++ for Gentlease :)

With ur baby being 2 weeks old I would give him time to get use to the formula.. The only time i would change the formula would be if he's spitting up alot. More than usual.. but ur baby is still tryin to get use to the outside. My newborn will be 2 months old tomorrow and I feed her similac advanced with Iron and she still moves her legs like her stomach hurts but shes not crying or anything. if hes having a hard time digesting it im sure he would be spitting it up..

ALL my boys were colic, and were in tremendous pain from formula. The only formula that worked for all three was Alimentum. It is the best best formula out there for colic and you will be doing you and your baby a favor by using it. I bought the one that was pre mixed and ready to serve. You will be amazed how much it will help. Good Luck

i'm not sure about prosobee or gentlease, but you should try them out. i think the best thing to do with formula is trial and error. i'll probably get a few negative responses for this, but don't always listen to your doctor. they don't know everything. my son's doctor told me one thing and it didn't help. your son's stomach can tell you more than a doctor can. i ended up using trial and error for my son and now he's doing fine on alimentum. try them out.
