There are many factors, more than 3 anyway. Here are a few: Will you use leased lines or private lines? What technology will you use such as frame relay, metro ethernet, optical or ATM? What will you backup links consist of such as ISDN or satellite? What IP routing protocol will you run such as OSPF or EIGRP or BGP? Is there any requirement for QoS or compression on any of the WAN links? What router hardware vendor will you use such as Cisco or Juniper or Nortel? What size (bandwidth) links are required, which in turn depends on the number of users, types of applications, where the servers reside, etc? What will the topology be, such as a star with everything coming back to a central data center, or maybe a metro ethernet ring, or some type of hybrid mesh WAN topology? Are managed services required, where the carrier owns and operates the CSU/DSU and/or router? What will be your network management setup and how will you get visibility and statistics and do capacity planning on your WAN?
