Oh Girl....Have I been where you are, or what?!!?
Are you living in CHAOS (Can't have anyone over syndrome)???
Honestly, what changed things for me was getting so discusted with myself that I sought out advice (just like you are). I found a book, "Sink Reflections." I worked the program, let myself go a couple of times here and there, got back into my routines and realized how much happier I am when my home is clean.
I would definately suggest this book, but if you don't want to buy the book you can sign up for the online program for FREE!!! It is through Yahoo! and sends you daily reminders of the babysteps that will get you on the path to cleanliness! Check out the website for so many helpful tricks and plans to get you started.
Good Luck!

You can change your habits but it takes discipline on your part. As far as dishes go, make it a habit to clean as you go. While you are cooking either hand wash your dishes or put them in the dishwasher while you are cooking. Once the meal is over all you will have left to do is the pans or pots you cooked in and your meal plates and glasses. With the laundry do loads like towels and linens during the week. Take 3 or 4 hours on Saturday or Sunday to do the clothes laundry. If you have a husband and/or children enlist them to help you with folding and putting the clean laundry away.
*** A big key in keeping things clean is to go through your house and do a big declutter. Throw away anything you do not use. Your clutter is usually what is sitting around on the desk, coutner tops, tables, etc. because it does not have a home. Once you clean out your cabinets, closets, and drawers you will have new space for items you use on a regular basis. Once the house is tidy you will want to make sure your return the items you use to its home so that everything stays neat and clean.
You can do it!!!

You just have to find what motivates you. I was a terribly messy teenager when I went away to a private school and stayed in a dorm. Once a week the dorm parents would do surprise inspections of our rooms, I was lucky enough to have a room to myself. Who ever had the cleanest room would not have to help with washing dishes in the cafeteria. I hated dishes more than I hated cleaning. So it got to the point that I won every week for having the cleanest room.

My wife cleaned a rented apartment for a gentleman when he moved out. It was the grossest filthiest place that she had ever cleaned, since he never did any cleaning. He has purchased a house and has hired my wife to go over every other week and clean it. He told her that having her come over has kept him disciplined to keep things picked up and put away. He still doesnt sweep or vacuum, but the house is tidy, she just has to do basic cleaning. You just need to find what drives and motivates you to get the place clean and to keep it clean

yeah its possible but not easy. its a lot easier if you tell friends what you dont want to do anymore and then have them watch you and tell you if you are doing it.
