Yes, what I suggest is to get an extension where the person who contacted you can be reached through the mortgage companies published phone number. If they cannot do that, tell them to go pound sand.

That sounds SO fishy! Ask them why they need it (they might be selling your mortgage).

Even if they are selling your loan they do not need it. Contact your lender directly and ask. It sounds like it could be identity theft.

Did they call you or write you?

If they called you (or emailed), it sounds like a phishing expedition by a scammer.
