When I was your age, mine came whenever. Sometimes 3
a month, sometimes everyother month. After my first kid,
it straightened out. But don't get knocked up just to straighten
out your periods!!!! Everybody's different. You're probably
ok and it's part of being a female!

Are you on an ultra-low-fat diet or have you lost a lot of weight? That can mess with your periods, as can really intensive athletic training. The solution would be to ease off on training and add a little fat to your diet.

Your levels of the hormone prolactin might be too high. The doctor would have to check that. Your periods should be getting more regular, not less, after four years. It's probably time to get a gynecologist involved. Your mom may recommend hers, or get your regular doctor to refer you.

Really, it takes a doctor to figure out these things, and if your current doctor can't figure it out, it's time to see a gynecologist. We on Answers can only guess, and that's not good enough.

Are you very athletic? Sometimes athletes can have irregular menses. Just keep track of it in a calendar.

If you have seen a doctor and he isn't concerned, but you still are, ask to see a gynecologist for a second opinion.

Young girls often have irregular periods. I don't believe this cause to worry, but if you do, get a second opinion.

Good luck.

There can be several issues that may contribute to this. Stress can be a huge factor in an irregular cycle as well as overly exercising and diet. Also, you should go to another doctor for a second opinion.

To be honest, some females just have irregular periods. I know a few females who dont have irregular periods. However, it could be due to a serious condition (I really doubt it though, but Im not a doc.) so keep your eyes open.
