Other than those people who suffer from medical conditions or terminal illnesses or incarceration, do people create their own living hell? Whether it is a customer who is screaming in agony because a package is showing up a day late. Or a teenaged girl is suffering because she is not getting any attention from her boyfriend. Or a person who hates his or her job yet continues to stay year after year. Do you believe that suffering is a choice? And if you believe suffering is a choice, is it possible to choose happiness?

In Buddhism there are four truths: Life is suffering. Suffering is due to attachments. Understanding this, one can transcend over their attachments. Once one transcends over their attachments, they will no longer suffer.

In other words, do some people build mountains over molehills? It occurs to me suffering can be reduced by the notion of acceptance. If one were able to reduce their suffering after accepting what happens, then is it possible for anyone to acce

yes you have stubled upon a little known truth.
most of your life is what you make of it.
at the moment of our births we posses almost infinite potential according to the laws of probability.
many things in life happen that we can not control.
but we control how we deal with them, and we control how these events shape and affect us.
i agree with the buddha in his realization that life is suffering, etc., except for his fourth noble truth, that in order to relieve suffering we must follow his eightfold path.
buddha chose to recognize suffering and then attempts to push it away. his system is based on the ancient hindu belief that we as humans will be reincarnated at death and have another chance at this life.
i disagree. we only have one chance at life.
why separate ourselves from humanity and the material world??
we are a part of it. your bicycle is made of the same prehistoric dust as is your bodily tissue, and in 3 million years will be as such once again.
the only way to relieve suffering is to pick it up and dust it off and embrace it and to LOVE it.
i have many friends who are suffering. one just got back from iraq. one had his mother pass away on christmas day. one is addicted to methamphetamine. should i tell them to go meditate? or should i go spend the day with them and listen to their sorrows and do my best to be there for them?
helping other people takes a lot of strength.
self preservation does not.

good luck my friend,
i am glad to see other people who think on a deeper level as you do.
as long as you seek truth with an open mind you shall find it.

I do think people cause their own suffering (personal experience) and denial is what creates it most of it. The sooner we accept what comes in our way the faster we can move on to a different stage of mind.
There is truth to Buddhism, suffering is due to attachments and we need to learn how to let go...
