As a teacher, I encourage my teenage students to practice at least one RAK each day... Random Acts of Kindness. That could also be considered a selfless act. If you allow another car to get in front of you , pick up a piece of litter, hold a door for an older person, taking care of your neighbor's pets/property while he is on vacation, volunteering in any capacity.... alll RAKs and we should all try for at least One A Day... just like the vitamin.

there are no truly selfless acts. even if a random act of kindness is done anonymously or in secret, it still makes a person feel better about themselves.

i was in love with this girl once and we took a trip to australia. while driving through the country we hit a parrot what flew too low and into our windshield! ouch! broken wing. we looked at each other and had to turn the car around. it was laying by the side of the road but refused to cooperate. so my girl suggested i take my jacket off and use it to catch this little birdy. it worked and we drove it to the nearest vet in town, which took some time off our trip but well worth it.
