The change in the date daylight savings time starts doesn't affect teh time zones. The rationale is that moving the date forward 3 weeks will reduce energy use--which it will, to a small degree.

But the reality is this is typical Bush smoke and mirrors. He wants to create an impression he's concerned about energy use--without actually having to do anything substantive to adddress either our dependancy on foreign oil or the environmental issues.

Bush didn't change daylight savings time; Congress did!
The rationale behind it is flawed, and only reflects the idiocy of our political leadership. In an attempt to make people believe they're really doing something about energy conservation, Congress just juggled things around to make it more convenient for big business.
The theory is that more daylight in the day reduces the need to turn on our lights until later in the evening. The flawed reasoning is that it only causes us to turn our lights on early in the morning!
Example: Saturday morning I woke up at 7:00 a.m. and it was daylight. There was no need to turn on any lights.
Sunday, after springing my clocks forward, I woke up at the same time and it was dark! I had to turn my lights on for an hour before daylight!
Multiply that by the millions of households, and you can easily ascertain that there is no energy savings. Except, perhaps, for big businesses, who don't start their routine work days until 8 or 9 a.m.
Here's another serious consideration: in most areas, that extra hour of darkness means school children will have to stand outside in the dark waiting for their school bus. It's astonishing that members of Congress have so little regard for the safety of our children!
It's evident that neither Republicans nor Democrats have a clue about anything they vote for, or pass in to law - as long as the lobbyists have persuaded them that it's good for business, our sleazy prostitutes in Congress simply continue to blunder their way through their terms in office.
Daylight savings time won't save one iota of energy, regardless of what your Congressman tells you.
The real problem is they're too afraid to tackle 'real' issues like global warming, the depletion of the ozone layer, and the end of OIL. That's because these so-called 'honorable' representatives don't know what to do about it, and don't care as long as they can be bought off by lobbyists and special interest groups. -RKO-

Have you ever read a newspaper? The US Congress changed the time change...the Democratically controlled Congress. You can't blame President Bush for everything.

bush didn't change the time, congress did.. and the main reason i heard was to save energy.. Which is stupid. I think they have the times backwards.. if they really wanted to save energy, they would have it get darker earlier in the summer and stay light longer in the winter.. This would help people use less energy,

He didn't. Congress did. They did it based on a 30 year old study that showed that by doing so would save a lot of electricity, equivalent to (I forget how many) lots of barrels of oil. But, since being what they are - Congress, they ignored a much more recent study done at a University that showed that it actually would not save any more at all.

Wait, this is somehow Bush's fault now? Well, whomever did it said it would save energy costs by having more daylight and not having to burn lights as much.
