80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.

To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

A question that has been asked by generations of men and women.
What is it that makes us so sure there has to be a meaning to life?
Isn't the question, why am I here, why was I born?
If we chose to look at it from a scientific view it's simply because your parents decided to have sex and your Mother didn't get an abortion.
If we chose to look at mankind as created in the image of God then we revert back to the question, why was I born?
Were you born with a purpose in life?
I believe we all are.
Now the question changes to what is the purpose of life?
Perhaps it's as simple as making this world, or your small part of it, a better place for your having been here.

the mean? Like the average? 42

The meaning? Thats a different question, that answer is nowhere in sight.

I believe there is more to life than meets the eye and that more will be revieled after we die. I do not, however, believe in any specific religion.

Each person should find their own meaning in life as it is most likely the best answer any single person could ever reach. The real meaning could be a depressing one, like we are all a science experiment of aliens that are watching our progress as we kill each other over religious beliefs that they created. No meaning...

Since having a meaning is a condition of living human consciousness. Animals do not need a point to live or exist. It is more of an affliction of consciousness that there are such things as meaning, a negative side to evolutionary development for lack of better words.
