Can someone explain to me why Chris Simon gets 25 games, potentially carrying over into next season, for cutting Hollweg's chin, but Bertuzzi got 17 games (with no carryover into the following season) for permanently disabling Steve Moore?

Beachguy: Bertuzzi only got 17 games. The reason he didn't play the following season was because of the lockout.

I honestly do not know, Betruzzi's actions were pre-meditated. Chris Simon's were a spur of the moment heated split second decision.
It does seem unfair, especially when you compare the blaring contrast between Moore's career ending injury and Hollweg's stitches.

Bertuzzi's suspension was conditional on the recovery of Moore. Moore improved despite not playing hockey and his recovery was factored into lifting the suspension. But yes he could of played in Europe but the leagues out there honored the suspension as well. 25 sends a message as it will be the remainder of the season and if the isles are out of the playoffs then the games continue into next season.
unlike most of the posters on here I actually saw that game in full. The game itself was out of hand to begin with and the coach was sending messages to the opposing team (He got fined for it too). Bertuzzi's only intention was a sucker punch but what happened is when he hit Moore Morre got his feet tangled with Bertuzzi and thus both fell Bertuzzi tried to balance himself but fell on top of moore and the momentum caused both to slide on the ice for a few feet. Bertuzzi did NOT try to drive his head through the ice. The league saw this and acted approiately. Simon should of been suspended for longer but take the instighation out of Hockey it isn't needed and acts like these will simply continue.

Simon blatantly and deliberately BC two handed him in the head area and Bertuzzi attacked from behind.I think Bertuzzi's incident was far worse because the poor guy never saw it coming.Simon got 25 games because the NHL has to make a point that this WILL NOT be tolerated PERIOD. May be a longer suspension is called for I'm not sure but it has to be addressed and strongly!

Actually Bertuzzi had a 17 MONTH Supension, it was ADDED after the iniial suspension. He wasn't allowed to play ANYWHERE during the lockout because of this. Look up ANY article about Simon and they tend to mention about Bertuzzi's. Although I believe Bertuzzi had to apply for for reinstatement. Don't be surprised it Simon has to as well. Just because the suspension handed down at time of incident seems short, remember they make the play apply to be allowed back in and have been known to add to suspensions that way.

+Good question! We are all human, at any given moment, we make the best call we can, based on past history, and events of the moment. Each insistent is based on the factors available in the time frame. Presently, we review the Bertuzzi, Mcsorly incidents as part of our decision making process. When Bertuzzi/ Mcsorly went down, the guys were working with individual incidents. Not right or wrong, just human nature.

I understand with what you are saying, but Bertuzzi's suspension was actually for the remainder of the one season plus playoffs, and the next season. Bertuzzi was not allowed to play in Europe during the strike season. I know its not the same, but just so you dont think he only got the 17 games.

Well I think the commitee looked at the tape and thought that the intention to hurt was definently higher than Bertuzzi. Sure, what he did was wrong, but Simon was on the verge of a monster. I am a huge Islander fan and I do like Simon but what he did was completely pathetic.
