Photo editing takes a lot of time and some strategy as to how to go about it. It also requires a relatively faster computer and depending on the quality of your desired image, a lot of PC memory.

Since photo retouching is a technique-related activity, I cannot explain to you how to do things without actually helping you out when you are doing it. (Sorta like teaching someone to ride a bike.) But I hope the following information helps.

If you do have access to popular software titles such as Photoshop, I suggest you visit your local library and borrow a book about it. Spend a few hours trying out the basics of the following concepts described below and you should be able to get something done.

If you can't spend money, I will suggest you try out Paint.NET. It should have more than enough features to do what you want.

The basic concepts employed for photo manipulation are the following:

1) Layers - This allows you to paste images as a layer above or below other images. So you would have the background at the bottom with other parts of the images that will compose your final work. You can freely manipulate the positions of the layers by selecting the layer and moving it with a move tool. Text elements are often also treated as layers so that you can reposition and remodel them any way you want.

2) Lasso tool - This allows you to cut out parts of the image, as if you were doing it with scissors. (i.e. The person's face, minus the background.)

3) The color replacement tool - This allows you to selectively replace certain colors with another so that you can merge two background together.

4) Image replacement tool - This allows you to selectively copy pixel by pixel from one point to another so that you can retouch images. (i.e. blemishes on a face pic by copying the skin image from another part of the face; making a person disappear from the background by replacing the offset background with existing patterns of grass and sky)

Happy Editing!

Actually, you can make most of those changes with Adobe Photoshop Elements, which is about $99.00 as apposed to the full version of Photoshop which runs for about $600.00. I got it at a warehouse club for $79.00.

You need to use a good image editing application such as Photoshop or Paintshop pro.
