All I know is that the Patriot Act has done more damage to the US Constitution & threatened more American Freedoms than any other peice of legislation in US history.
Dems tend to guard the laws of the Constitution a better than the Republicans but they're not perfect either.

The biggest threat by the republicans to the constitution is the Patriot Act, abortion, No Child Left Behind Act, wiretapping.
The biggest threat by the democrats is taxes, freedom FROM religion, affirmative action, eminent domain!
The Libertarian party wouldn't do these things! They believe in Freedom in a Free Country! They hold the constitution high and understand the prosperity it brings. Wish we could go back to it instead of government zapping 45% of our dollar from the economy every year! People just don't understand the beauty of competitive markets and the harm of government!

I think that both parties need to get back to basics on the US Constitution. We have had so much judicial legislation, that the Constitution barely resembles the founders' intentions, regarding Free Speech, Freedom of Religion, Separation of Powers, Separation of Church and State.
There are people in all parties who wish to impose their own twisted Constitutional view on the American people, and the cure for that is the educating of the American people.
Hillary Clinton: Wants the Fairness Doctrine, which totally violates Free Speech.
Bush: Has codified some 4th Amendment breaches, however, the Fed has been doing these things for over 40 years.

Interesting question. In the next election I'm voting Libertarian because I've studied them and their party believes in less government and more rights for the people. I have a big problem with lawmakers on both sides as they pass stupid laws. Examples: In some states, if a person under the age of 18 is picked up for Minor In Consumption, they automatically lose their drivers license until they're 21. I could go on and on.

The fundamental mistake the Libertarians make is they worship laissez-faire capitalism, not democracy.
In the Preamble to the US Constitution and in Article I, Section 8, the PEOPLE are explicitly given the power to promote the general welfare. Laissez-faire (free-market capitalism) has a notorious record of not promoting the general welfare- only the welfare of a privileged few. The founding fathers had the wisdom to see that the PEOPLE be granted the authority to promote the general welfare. This responsibility was delegated to the PEOPLE and enshrined in the Constitution.
The rights and privileges of the economy are granted by the PEOPLE in the interest of promoting the general welfare. Libertarians make the mistake of believing that the PEOPLE's rights and privileges are granted to them by a laissez-faire economy, a priori, rather than the other way around.

Its tunnel vision of the major parties...win at all cost and sacrifice anything including the bill of rights. The libertarian view is most likely the correct view on all issues but the only problem with libertarians is that they do not believe in being intrusive with people private lives. Its hard to win a modern day political campaign without being intrusive. How you are going to run an political ad bombarding people homes informing them you are going to leave them alone.

Yes, congress, which is made up of both parties did not halt the president when he chose to send troops into Iraq without full support of the UN. That FULL support was promised. There was to be NO invasion without that support. Congress should have threatened to withhold funding.
The Patriot Act is anything but patriotic. It has been used and abused by the FBI to gain information ILLEGALLY. That was in the top news items a few days ago.
I think the government has become afraid of its people and is slowly putting into place the means to control us ILLEGALLY. Internment camps, spying, locking people up without a hearing or a lawyer.
THAT IS SCARY STUFF.

Not really. I think it is more of a problem with the supreme court.
The legislative branch is supposed to make the laws (mix of Reps & Dems), the executive branch is supposed to enforce laws (sometimes Rep sometimes Dem), the judicial branch is supposed to make sure that the laws and their enfrocement comply with the Constitution (they should have no political affiliation once appointed/confirmed).
Lately, the Supreme Court has slipped into acting unconstitutionally by both making new laws and affecting the enforcement of others.

I don't believe anybody has forgotton The Constitution. In fact people are so worried they might offend The Constitution that take a very loose or "living" interpretation and they allow things that aren't in it.
