we are 3 girls working the graveyard shift our co workers from the other shifts are very lazy and selfish. they will not do their job and leave everything to us. we have double the work if the store does not look good in the morning we get complaints there is only so much a person can do. we do not get breaks .on the weekends we have to do 2 jobs we have to do the the maintenance and cashier job. not a penny more just more stress and headaches between taking care of customers we have to make coffee, clean grills, frontface the shelves, sweep and mop the floor, clean showers, put out the bakery items, stock cigarrettes, stock shelves, wash and dry towels, clean mens and ladies bathroom, check in vendors, stock candy, clean doors and windows, empty trash etc there are only 2 girls on duty per night 2 nights a week we dont have a maintenance man neither cashiers or even management will stay over to help out .(except one female manager) we are really frustrated . its just not fair

Talk to your supervisor...if that doesn't produce result then go to your supervisor's boss...I can't imagine working a graveyard shift without a differential in pay seems like they would just automatically make more money......

Your course of action should be as follows:
1. Continue to do your job to the best of your ability.
2. Discuss the matter with your 2 other graveyard shift co-workers. Make sure that you are all on the same page. That you all agree that the work is unfair and your work conditions should be improved. If you are not on the same page you will not be able to get management to change.
3. The three of you (and I mean all three) should agree to speak to your supervisor together. Not one at a time. Together. Together, make an appointment with the supervisor to come in 1/2 hour earlier or stay 1/2 hour later one day for a meeting to speak with the supervisor.
4. Before this meeting, the three of you should WRITE DOWN on a clean crisp piece of paper a list of all the tasks that you do overnight and how much time each job takes. To show that you do not slack off for one minute during the worknight. You should all sign and date the paper.
5. Before the meeting, the three of you should WRITE DOWN on a clean crisp piece of paper what you would like management to consider doing. Is it pay more? Is it hire another girl so that you each don't have so much to do? Is it to move some of the tasks, that you identified in the other piece of paper, to the earlier shift? You should all sign this paper also. You should be clear as to what you are asking for so that managment sees that you have really thought thru the problem.
6. Before the meeting, you should decide who will speak about what. Each of the three of you should be assigned something to say. If only one of you speak, management may think that this person is a troublemaker. You do not want that to happen. Each of you MUST have something to say in the meeting.
Go for it. Sounds to me like you are a very diligent and hard working person but you are being taken advantage of so by all means you have the right to request better treatment. But you do not want to seem to be a disgruntled employee. You want to come off as being thoughtful, constructive and a good team player. Good luck.

If it were me, I'd make a detailed chart at home, on a single page, of the activities you have to do, with a blank spot for time began and time ended. Make copies at work. Be sure to put the date and your name on each sheet. Jot down start and end times for each activity. Do the amount of work that is reasonable and still take EVERY break you are entitled to. DON'T do more than is reasonable. Leave stuff undone. SAVE these records! Have your night co-workers fill the times on their own copies of these sheets as well, if you'd like to protect them. When management asks why some stuff isn't being done, explain that your shift is being unfairly burdened with work that somehow isn't being done on first or second shift. Here are the records we have been keeping of our activities since this became an issue for our shift.
This protects you and will cause changes to be made of the other shifts and doesn't make you the bad "guy".
The bottom line is... you must take these steps, or nothing will change. If you get all the work done, it'll just be expected.

You are right. It is not fair at all.
Definitely talk with your supervisor and tell him/her of a list of things that are NOT getting done by the people from the previous shift.
Perhaps go to the supervisor WITH a few people who share in your senitments, and tell the supervisor as a group, exactly what is NOT getting accomplished by the previous shift. Tell the supervisor how difficult it has been for all of you, and that you want to do your job, but it's being compromised by poor work by others, and that it's making your work that much harder.
Let the supervisor know that you respect your job, and want to do it well, but that it's just not fair to have to deal with an unkempt work area.
Don't bother talking to the people in the shift before you. They won't listen. They are getting away with all of this, so why would they want to fix it. Therefore, your best course of action would be to go directly to the supervisor with your issue. It is a very valid issue, and you have the right to have it remedied asap.
I hope this helps! See link below for forum on "co-workers slacking off"

I hear truck stop so you forgot to mention putting up with tired drivers. Let senior management know the situation. If they don't fire you or fix the situation, let corporate know about the situation. Many of the tasks you mention, however, can only be done on the graveyard because the other shifts have too many customers. I appreciate your problem, but I don't know that it will get any better unless they throw more bodies at it. Good luck.

Autoimmune Disorder We kill it by degrees As we treat other forms of life Through corporate decrees We lose the products of our strife. When we take but do not give back Except in tokenistic bits Our synthetic products start to lack Sufficient redeeming merits. Earth's elements taken out of place And then juxtapositioned wrong Acquire a surrealistic face That never did belong. If revulsion turns to horror Amidst the heaps and slime We might stop taking more, or We will run out of time. If it is through pollution The end of the earth we see It will amaze that the execution Precedes the end of fertility.

you need to talk to your supervisor. this isn't fair to the ones doing all the work. I'm sure eventually they will find out who is doing what but that could take time and you should not have to put up with this. talk to someone or threaten to walk. you could always tell your supervisor that you guys are going to take some time off so they can see what the shift before you does or in you case doesn't do.

Do something to make your managers listen. You're right; it's not fair. And, although life isn't fair, I think you have a justified cause for complaint. If your manager doesn't do anything about it, I suggest you start looking for another job. Because it sounds like you can get a better job for more pay.

Find another job! You should never work in a position that you are unhappy with. It's not good for anyone all the way around!
The company will realize it's position when enough people come and go on a rapid basis!
