Since the product has at most 5 digits then in the multiplicand N = 1 or 2;
..........and in the product D is greater than or equal to 4.
From the units place, 4 x D is even, therefore with "N = 1 or 2" (as previously mentioned), then N = 2.
..........which in turn implies that D = 3 or 8.
This, together with "D is greater than or equal to 4" (as previously mentioned), implies that D = 8.
