Air is mixture of several elements, including oxygen and carbon dioxide, as well as many other impurities, meaning it's impossible to know its exact composition. The air as we know it only exists within earth's atmosphere, but I don't think anyone knows exactly how it came to be.

Welll air is in the Atmosphere for many reasons.
1st, we need it 2 breath
2nd, plants need it to make food
air is made up of elements, oxegen (we need that), helium, Carbon dioxcide, Nitrogen, and many other little elements.
And elements cant be made up of anything (there proparty)
so that is what air is made of

Earth's atmosphere is a layer of gases surrounding the planet Earth and retained by the Earth's gravity. It contains roughly 78% nitrogen,21% oxygen, 0.93% argon, 0.04% carbon dioxide, and trace amounts of other gases, in addition to about 3% water vapor. This mixture of gases is commonly known as air.
Air is what you breathe. simple as that, if the above elements didnt exist we would be screwed.
