women ARE beautiful.
sistas, are beautiful.
that being said, the very problem you are talking about perpetuates itself in your question and in the responses of someof the yahoo answerers. halle berry is "biracial" and therefore is not considered to be a "real" black woman? excuse me? halle and beyonce ARE real black women. just because they are lighter skinned doesn't make them any less "real." they have experienced the black experience as much as any other person.
i think that they are immediately thought of as beautiful (especially beyonce) because they are famous and popular. there aren't that many darker, famous sistas out there. why is this? media. american brainwashing.
now we all know, there are drop dead gorgeous black women out there of all different shades and colors. the ones who make it into the movies and magazines are usually light or damned near white because that is what sells.
as to what black men WANT in their day to day real lives? they want a good, sexy lady who'll treat 'em right. beyonce is beyonce, but how many men are going to be dating someone like beyonce?
in my personal experience, living in san diego, black men will not look my way. they are too busy trying to get blondie's attention. in atlanta, however, i was very courteously treated and admired by black men of all walks of life. i think it just depends on the man and his experiences as to what he REALLY finds beautiful.

The funny thing is I don't think Halle Berry and Beyonce are THAT light-skinned, because I've seen many black people way lighter than them, including myself. I think they are somewhere in the middle. There doesn't seem to be a lot of dark-skinned women who have reached the popularity of these two. But I have heard men of all races claim that many dark-skinned women are beautiful, such as Lauryn Hill and Iman.

It's the way the media portray black beauty in general. When the talk about beautiful black women, their always light skinned and they show Halle or Beyonce on the television screen. There are so many dark skin women that are far better looking than these two, but will you would never know it due to whites not portraying these women on television.

I think about every straight male has a secret desire for a black woman wether it be a light skinned one or a dark skinned one. Media for whatever reason only wants to give the spot light to halle berry or beyonce knowles but there are a lot of beautiful dark skinned black women. I married a dark skinned black woman i personally find beauty in all shades of colors.

nothing at all, i prefer dark skinned women myself i don't know what's wrong with everyone. i can't honestly say that light skinned women aren't attractive, or sexy or anything just that they don't really do it for me. but those are my preferences.
i never thought of it as being politically correct though. i think that men honestly do feel that way i don't think being politically correct has anything to do with it. what is politically correct is perhaps the fact that the media continues to portray women as Beyonce as sexy and beautiful because it is safe, most people will go along with it, and it isn't as "confrontational" and "scary" as the sexuality that the dark skinned black woman brings to the table.
it all seems to go in cycles too. the light skinned woman will be in vogue now, ten years later the dark skinned woman and then the light all over again. what's funny to me, is seeing white women and Hispanic women in these "mens" magazines that are nothing other than soft material. you never did used to see that it just doesn't fit for me but perhaps they do sell more issues that way ...

It has nothing to do with racism or men trying ot be PC, they choose these 'black' women because they are the first 'coloured skin' females that come to their head...those 2 are both constantly in the spot light & are incredibly popluar.
When they use beyonce & halle as examples i dont think they are thinking about whether they are light skinned/black/mixed heritage, they think 'ooo quick a famous black female i can use as an example'
All races have beautiful characteristics & beautiful women, and they have their share of ugly characteristics & women!
If a women is beautiful it is noticed by men regardless of the colour of that womans skin! Some men aren't attracted to certain skin tones....so what, us women aren't attracted to every skin tone of men either!

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. That is like asking if black men believe that white women are more attractive than black women, biracial or not. Did you ask your husband why he chose you over a darker skinned woman? We as a community are bombarded with what the world says is beautiful and to defeat the false image that only light skinned women are beautiful, we must give our girls positive reinforcement and let them know that no matter what society says, they are beautiful. Also, we must not let our sons feed into the madness that black is not beautiful. Society may seem to value light skinned women, it is up to you to teach your girls to value themselves more than society does and they will be able to handle the negativity that society may throw at them.

This is not true. They are only using these women as examples. I think your making this bigger than what it is. You don't know every man in the world so you can't sit back and say that they all feel this same way about black women. Don't generalize like your doing because it's not right. Their are beautiful dark women out there. Just because someone is lighter does not make them look better. I think we all know that from walking out of our doors everyday. The only one that thinks this way is you right now. Stop worrying yourself with this because it's not true at all. I'm a black female, and no I'm not dark skinned, but if I was I would still be just as confident as I am now. I would still be smart enough to know that beauty comes in different shades. That's what makes us all so unique in the first place. Think of how boring our world would be if we all had the same skin complexion.

It just seems to be the way it is. I glanced at Essence and Ebony one time, and all the female models seemed to be light skin with caucasian features. For white guys, the most attractive dark skin, ***** feature women seem to be the amazon types with voluptuous features.
It's all a weird mixture of impressions. I'm sure that Halle Barry, Vanessa Williams, Beyonce and others have tried to make the most of their biracial appeal, and haven't felt guilty about it.
