Would one of their vaccum cleaners work in America

a standard receptical in canada puts out 110-120 volts. I'm not sure what kind of vaccum cleaner you are planning to use. It is best to check the specs on the cleaner. there should be some kind of a label inside or on the bottom or else check the owners manual for the correct voltage and ampres that the unit will use.

Canada is on the same grid as the US. 110-120V 60 Cycle.

Why wouldn't they?
Canda or Canada should be about the same as the US.

I wonder why they make different shaped outlets in different countries.

I think Canada uses 120 volts like the US uses.

As a Canadian now living in the US, I can assure you that all appliances you use in the US can be used in Canada. They use exactly the same standards. Your vacuum will be fine, along with any other appliance.
