I have moved abroad and am finding it very difficult to make friends and people are 'not genuine' the country is a 7 hour flight from home which is difficult. Does it ever get any easier.
Helpful comments appreciated!

Yes, I moved from England to the USA when I was 11 and then came back to England three years ago! It takes some time to adjust and make friends. Hang in there!

I moved with my husband and baby from England to Zambia (although it was called Northern Rhodesia then), then to Botswana and later to South Africa and only returned to live in England 40 years later, although we had many holidays in the UK over that time. Yes, it is hard to settle in a new country but I found it easier when I stopped thinking of "home" and remembered that "home" was where I lived at that moment. Try joining a Club or Gym to meet people and forget how they do things at "home" and learn the local customs. You will find that you will get on with the locals much better if you go half way to understanding them and how they do things. Then you will start to feel "at home" again and enjoy your new country.
Good luck.

Yes, I moved from Scotland to Malta after I got married, my husband is Maltese, it has taken me years to settle and I still feel homesick all the time, I go home as often as I can, I have made many friends, some of them English and Scottish and some Maltese, I also find people here are not genuine they want to know all about you for the wrong reasons, it does get easier with time, but all my foreign friend s here, some of which have been here over 20 years still yearn to go home, I guess home is where the heart is, I am determined that I will return home one day as I do not want to grow old and die here, my oldest daughter is already making plans with her boyfriend to leave to go back to Scotland, If you have kids try to get out as much as possible, try going to places where you might find tourists, small things like that can help, hope this helps, good luck.

I have lived in the U.S.A, Republic of Ireland and Germany because of work. Sometimes for long periods. Have just moved to Czech Republic where I live in semi retirement. Always try to speak the local language even if not word perfect. It's rude not to. As for retiring to Spain to live in a British ghetto with people who haven't spoken a word of Spanish for 15 years or more; well that's just plain ignorance. Let me know the country and I will try to be more specific. In the meantime hang on in. It gets easier. Are you alone or do you have family with you?

This is the third country I've worked and lived in, and I can tell you that you need to learn as much of the language as you can. Now, if you're already in a country where you speak the language, then you need to be as open as you can be. Do you play an instrument? Look for people doing things that you're interested in. Go to the British Council if there is one.

hmm ive moved from america ( new york) to greece ( athens)...well in the beginning i found it a bit difficult to make new friends and that stuff but i learned the language ( not fluently) and so made friends!!
if u do the same u will have many friends too!!
but don't think thats difficult...if u move to another country u don't have another choice but to learn the language...unbiasedly...
anyways give it a little time!!
join clubs or talk more to ur colleges at work...u'll be just fine man!!
