People freak out when they have grey hair because they find that they are getting old and they are soon going to have tons of it.

Because they have been told they should.
Grey hair comes at different ages for different people so it is not a definitive measure for aging; it is a definitive measure for your personal genetics for grey hair. The business that make a fortune (from your income) selling you products to keep you looking young (or what ever else they have dictated you must "have" or "be") have convinced too many that getting older (looking older that is, there is only one way to not become older) is awful. If a lot of people decided they wanted to look older, they would immediately change their products to help us look older.
I would like to start a campaign to drive the corporations that control the consciousness and self image (of the all too plastic majority) of America insane.
I suggest we should all agree that for one year we want to look a certain way, maybe grey hair and a little chubby. The cosmetic companies, clothing designers, hair color manufacturers, jewelry designers, make up, skin care, magazines....in general all the industries (most of them in China these days) would have to redesign everything to meet our buying demands. Next year we would all pick a different look...
At the very least it would return the concept of “self” to at least some individuals and demonstrate how much power most give to corporations whose purpose is to convince us of our need for their products (and give them money for those products).
I admit to joyful thoughts of seeing them adapting to the desires of an enlightened public.

there afraid there melanin is going to stop. If that happens it still takes a while to show results of grey hair. People just think there going to get a lot and have all grey hair at a young age.

when u find a grey hair its a sign of getting old...people dont want 2 get old fast so they freak!!

People freak because they think it means they are getting old but it's more genetic i found my first gray hair at 26 and my dad went gray in his 20's too all you can to is found a good box of hair coloring.

because even though they know they are aging a grey hair is an obvious sign of it, and people who dont accept themselves will be the ones to flip out.
