I went to a local bar/club on Friday night and I did not have enough cash for the cover charge so the person at the door told me to go to the bar and use my debit/ bank card to get the money from the bartender. The bartender took my card and charged me for the cover charge and gave me the cash. I just noticed that they added an extra $5 on there !

It has made my card overdrawn now by $2.50!

What can I do?

Stage a protest.

Or contact your bank.

Get a copy of the reciept and call or go to your bank , you may have not looked when you signed the reciept . Usually you are suppose to check a box and add an amount for a tip when you use a credit or debit card.
You can dispute it with your bank and the bar.
Good luck !

you should have been more careful at the time, this is your fault and the charge was probably to cover the cost to them to put it through the bank, not a tip, they will have had this policy displayed. the fact you didnt see the amount you were signing for explains why you didnt see the clubs poilicy too. Put it down to experience

My son in law was a waiter and had a table of 15, they left him a $1.00 tip. He changed it to $10.00 because he felt he had busted his but and did a good job. He was arrested for altering the ticket and was put on 4yrs. probation and 1000hr. of community service even after the person he charged it to agreed she should of tipped him better. So maybe you were being cheap.. Maybe they deserved a 5.00 tip

In Australia some banks such as A.N.Z. will let you withdraw payment as long as you have most details and report it before 3 days are up.
Try your bank.

Should have checked it before you signed it. Now you also got rid of the receipt, so it is now more difficult - the only proof is your word against your signed receipt and card pass.

Problem is, if you have your bank cancel the charge, then the bar can have you charged with fraud.

Well, it is a cheap lesson. Good thing it was not the salesman at the Porche dealer.

if you had saved the reciept, you could sue them for withdrawing money from your account or where ever without your permission. but you dont have the reciept so a lawsuit would be a waste of money because you dont have proof.
