I'd venture an educated guess and say you just broke your mouse. The left-click is the most commonly used button on the mouse, and likewise the most prone to breaking down due to natural wear and tear. Buy a new mouse.

If you need to buy yourself a few extra days until you get a new one, you can go into your computer's mouse settings and swap the functions of the left and right buttons. That way you can use your right button instead of the left one, allowing you to at least get some basic functionality out of the device before you replace it.

Edit: If you're feeling particularly savvy, you can take a small screwdriver and open your mouse up. Clean out all the dust and put it back together. It occured to me that it's possible a chunk of lint in the right place can prevent the button from properly clicking. But I'm still leaning towards just replacing the mouse.

Try the reboot but you probably need a new mouse. They're getting pretty cheap and you can pick them up all over the place. I've spotted name brand optical mice for under ten dollars at Dollar General and Big Lots.
