The International Date Line is an imaginary line that runs from the North Pole to the South Pole in the Pacific Ocean, bypassing as many land masses as possible. The Date Line is where the day changes-for example, if you are one the east side of the Line, today is Sunday. If you are on the west side of the line, it is Monday.

As already explained - it is an imaginary line running from North to South where one day ends and another begins.
It runs through the country of NEW ZEALAND.
Imagine a day - New Year's Day. In New Zealand they celebrate the New Year. About 4 hrs later here in Western Australia we celebrate New Year.
Many hours later they celebrate the New Year in Europe.
Over half a day later they celebrate as the New Year arrives in New York.
Finally almost a whole day later the New Year arrives in California and Hawaii. The New Zealanders are just about to enter the 2nd day of the year.
So what ever happens in the world New Zealanders hear of it early.
If you are in an aeroplane going West you have to adjust your watch as you go over New Zealand.
