Why do people use guilt in order to convince or persuade others?
Isn't that a weak and unintelligent way to persuade others?

Yes, it is - if your focus is on the others. People who use guilt are actually on a power trip where it's important to them to believe that they're right and the other person's wrong (ideally, so wrong that they'll suffer the pains of eternal damnation) and they believe that by inducing guilt they're doing the other party a service. Such behaviour signifies a sad inability to analyse their own motives, emotions, and fallibilities.

it's not weak and unintelligent ill give you an example.Try doing something manipulative and messed up to somebody then try living with it.You wont be able to because the feeling of guilt will hurt you and mess with your mentality.
