The foot switches are glorified rheostats, and are interchangeable as long as they can handle the amperage of your machine.

I'm not familiar with that model number - it may be to new for me, but the old models with three digits have many yahoo groups concerned with the 'care and feeding' of old machines - search with the word vintage and whatever line - eg vintage kenmore, vintage singer, etc, etc
Also, a local sewing machine supplier should be able to supply or adapt a new controller so you won't have the 'issues' that old controllers have (cracking, worn wires, etc) Be wary of buying old/used.

Go to www.singerco.com, its the Singer company website and they have a link to find a factory authorized dealer in your area and they may sell the part.
