If you are holding onto something because you "might" use it someday you more than likely do not need it. Most homes have little storage space so you have to discpiline yourself in what you are going to keep. If you find you need to keep several items sort the items in like piles and store them in plastic bins with a label on the outside. If you are holding onto items that are worth just a few bucks it really won't set you back if you throw it away and find out 2 years later you need to use it. You can just go buy another. Go through mail and papers as soon as you walk in the door because paper clutter can get out of hand quickly. Have a recycle basket at your landing spot that you can quickly throw things like junk mail into so that you don't have piles all over the place.
Decluttering is initially a big chore because you need to go through every item in your home. You begin by taking everything out of closets, cabinets, drawers etc. and determine what is going to be kept and what is not. However, once you complete that task you will find it much easier to keep up on your housework because you won't have the clutter sitting around. Make it a habit that if you buy an item you will toss another. For example if you have 3 pairs of black shoes and you purchase another you must throw away one pair when you add in the new pair.
Good luck!

First thing I like to do is crank up the radio that is very important then i take the trash can from room to room with me and I go though everything asking myself have I used this in the last six months if I have not I will decide to give to Charity or trash it this can be hard because I have two kids in grade school and their always bring home papers and artwork but if I kept everything I would be drowning too.I try to keep two things a month.Just try and have a good time because when you our finished there is no better feeling.

Getting rid of clutter really frees you up. I just started getting rid of ANYTHING that I hadn't used or seen or thought about in ages and now I am pretty much clutter free. I LOVE it. Just give as much away as you can. Daily pack up a box of it or a bag of it and drop it off.
I too thought I would maybe "need" something later but guess what?? Later happened and I still don't "need" anything that I got rid of!!

you are a pack rat, get rid of it if you havent used it in a month, dont wait 6 months. if it is not of sentimental value toss it. you will never keep your house looking clean if you dont. and even the things you want to keep because someone gave it to you but you really dont want it setting out any longer you can box up and store for awhile. as far as magezines and books, you will probably never look at them agian donate them to the local library or nursing home so someone can benifit from them. just put it in your mind, "I AM GETTING RID OF THIS CLUTTER" you can do it.

Try donating it to a charity (they would get needed money and you know your trinkets wouldn't go to waste) of course papers and stuff like that should be thrown away. Or get some of those big plastic boxes put in the items and store in a closet or garage.

i'm afraid i'm too busy having a existence to fret a pair of little bit of muddle. daily rituals? What a waste of time. however the clothing element is undemanding. do no longer make a pile of previous outfits, purely placed them immediately in a bag as a replace. Bag next to door, take it to the charity shop next time i pass that way.

sometimes when i dont want to throw out my clutter, but i do want to get rid of it, i either box it all up and take it to the charity shop - they take anything. or maybe just put it in your front yard with a sign saying "free stuff".

you're not alone, human are basically horders or throwers, usually a horder will marry a thrower, whatever you did not used in the last 6 months you can throw away, don't think, don't keep, just throw, or else ask your wife to clear your junk she'll be more than happy to throw away your junks, just do not hang around & brings back what she throw out
