I'm not sure I fully understand your question here. The fact the ad didn't make money has no bearing on anything, SWB yellow pages don't offer a refund if there is no result to the ad placed. If your daughter placed an ad in your name and was an adult and not authorized to speak for you, it should not affect you, and they would be looking for your daughter.
Once you start getting papers directing you to court, whether or not you are named in the papers, regarding a liability to a company you either own or have a part in, it is time to consult an attorney, which should have been done with the first papers.
I have no idea what, if anything, they can do, but you can bet they have have high priced attorneys working on it. Protect yourself by getting representation, and ask your attorney, not Yahoo! Answers, what you should or shouldn't do.

I'm not sure you've given enough information to answer. Is it your daughter's name on the papers? If so, was your daughter a minor at the time of the judgement? Does she still live with you? If not, who's name is on the papers, some stranger, or is it an alternate spelling of your own name?
There may be ways to get relief from the judgment if there was some error in the paperwork, or if SBC did not serve you (or your daughter) with proper notice according to the laws in your state. But you'd probably need a lawyer to look into it. There are also strict time limits for trying to get relief from a judgment, so if you're going to do something you should do it right away.
Assuming you got relief from the judgment, you could probably fight the lawsuit, if you can prove that the yellow pages ad was really placed without your consent or knowledge.

well, if its not in your name, they shouldnt be checking your records, but the question is,,,,, whose name is it in? if your daughter placed the ad,,,,, it is her responsibility,,,,,,, you really should of handled it when the first papers came,,,,,, its a bill someone must pay,,,,,,,,, not sure who you mean wants to check bank records etc? the court? was the ad placed in the name of a business you owned? or were partners in? i would contact the court, if court papers have been filed,,,, otherwise contact the collection company if that is where the papers came from,,,,,,,,
ps: by your added details, you say a different last name then yours,,,,,, is this a name your daughter gave them? or a name that you have used in the past? i really suggest you get to the bottem of this,,,,, as while maybe not jail,,,,,, it could cause problems for either you or the daughter, and end up costing alot more money in the future , for/if a judgement is issued against either one of you,,,,
the main thing, is this a debt that you or your daughter made,, perhaps your daughter on your behalf? if you were aware of it and didnt cancel the ad,,,,,, that shows approval on your part,,,,,,,
