Go to a library and find a Sears Roebuck Catalog for the period.
Short of that, a book about the 1937-38 period written by a research expert would be most useful.
There may be a a google site that is pre-World War II also.
The costs of hard goods--a dress, shoes, etc. are easier to find than what are national price question answers about gas, electricity, household natural gas or coal and so on that may be scattered in many sources.

(If this doesn't work, type in "Value of a dollar" and a year to get to the site; it shows up first as a pdf, great list of items from apples to kerosene to shoes.)
