Click this link to read an essay written in 1976 that is still relevant today about US relations with Latin America - http://www.foreignaffairs.org/19761001faessay10212/abraham-f-lowenthal/two-hundred-years-of-american-foreign-policy-the-united-states-and-latin-america-ending-the-hegemonic-presumption.html

Chavez isn't making up lies. If you actually spent anytime living in a developing nation in Latin America or the Caribbean, or did ANY research on US Foreign Policy in that region, you would realize that he has more than enough ammunition to make a case.

Yes he is a bit out there and I don't like his dictator moves, but he is correct to talk about imperialist tendencies.

Having grown up in Jamaica and then going to college in the USA, I can very much attest to the sentiment in the region based on poor advice from the IMF, World Bank and Inter-American Development bank.

Check out the documentary "Life and Debt" and you will get a MUCH CLEARER picture of the issues surrounding these protests and anti-US sentiment in the region.

If you don't research that documentary, made from the prespective of the people in the region and not American media, then it means that you do not want to learn more about the problem and solve it.

The truth is often not pretty but you have to understand what has resulted in these feelings before you can properly comment on them or address them.

He is copying the US model of "dollar diplomacy" - doling out money to win favours - how is it wrong when he does it but fine when the US does it? Isn't that hypocritical? (and that is what US AID is).

Latin American and Caribbean people are convinced that the US is two-faced. Eg. Telling us you want to support our developing economies but then going to the WTO under the Clinton Admin. to get our preferential treatment for bananas removed when the US doesn't even export bananas, thus hurting our economies tremendously and making us even more dependent on US aid.

What about telling us to eliminate our tariffs and subsidies when the US levels a 54 cent tax on ethanol from Brazil to protect its own farmers? or subsidies for so much of its farm produce that would otherwise be uncompetitive?

Hypocritical policies are what are being exposed, Chavez is merely doing the research that anyone has to do in a US Foreign policy class and using it to his advantage.

there is not any rules against hypocrisy. You the author of this question, here's a lesson. Hugo offends you considering the fact which you have a sturdy experience of integrity. This makes you predictable in politics. while your integrity is offended that is going to call for a speedy reaction...inclusive of a glove slap around the face maximum efficient to a duel. you may under no circumstances make it politics because of the fact it particularly is a trick...human beings might offend you in public to predictably manage you right into a reaction. Bush is doing genuine to no longer fall for Hugo and quickly the form would be forgotten. human beings % to be offensive, yet you % to be offended.

Thank you. Hugo Chavez is a paranoid schizophrenic. He convinced the voting public in Venezuela that the USA was getting ready to attack them and steal their oil. He did this to get them to vote him in as a Dictator. I wonder how many years it will be before the citizen there are knocking on our door asking us to help them to get rid of him?

He is attempting to become a Fidel Castro by promising his people easy living when in reality he will in the end just be another Saddam Hussein.
