The Ivy League is the only conference that doesn't have a conference tournament, so they're the exception to the rule. After that, the conference championship is THE most important to a school, because it gets the automatic NCAA bid, and the tournament performance can improve a team's placement in the bracket. While the selection committee does look at the regular season statistics, they put more weight on the last ten games played, and the conference tournaments are included in that.

More important? Regular season champ. They both have definate juice in them but, in a tournament anything can happen, one play, or a bad day can end your hopes. A season champ is a record built on several games over time. Tourney's are all about playing teams you have never played before, it shows what you are made of, but you only have one game to get it right and move on.

It's the tournament championship, for money and the NCAA tournament bid. I'm just thankful for the rule that was instituted last season that gives conference regular season winners who do not win their tournaments a guarantee of no worse than an NIT bid. Don't let a whole season go to waste over what could easily be one lucky shot or one bad pass.
