India was anciently a very romantic country.... were every woman wanted to look attractive to men. And i guess saree really brought out the sensual looks and curves of a woman. A woman's hip curves are considered most beautiful in India. Various poets used various pharses to describe a woman... which today many may look down at.

Anyway the point here is, what you wear and how u wear shows the freedom you have and i guess nobody has the right to question what others wear. Be it below or above their navel.

Listen, Sarees can be transparent, but think about the under garments, which are not transparents, and exposing naval has no sex appeal, to few it may be, but saree cover it all, if wearer want to cover all, if not what can we do, its a democracy, and tradition to wear saree in Indian culture is ages old, why complain

why do you care? if it is a part of their culture then it should make no difference in you..!! plus its just a belly button...some american chicks walk around with their navel exposed..but that has no affect on you? if you go to the beach...women walk around with bathing suits that exposes alot more...but you don't hear us complaining...do you? thats because at the beach you wear a bathing suit...and like their religion..they wear sarees...if you don't like that then first look at yourself and think back to were someone said something similar to that about you...how did that make you feel? not so good right? don't talk about other people and their cultures...its disrespectful and its just wrong!! if you have a problem then just don't look!! is it that hard to understand?!?

Why dont the Indian girls feel bad.........?
They are different, you are different, and we are different. Thats all .. its not the question of good or bad.
But while choosing a boy to marry they should see if he comes from an orthodox family?
In Germany, (Bavaria), the ladies didnt like my blouse with the sarees coz it didnot cover my naval (&tummy). They dont mind exposing hands and legs (limbs), but hey dont like if we expose muscular parts of our body. They didnt mind when I wore long blouses. They appreciated the saree.!

Its fine to as its part of their culture. Navels are natural parts of us so they are fine to show.

I think they look great espeically if they are pierced. I have a belly bar with a gem in mine it looks cute. I love wearing belly tops and showing it off. I have a flat stomach and do sit ups so that helps :)

It is through which we were feed, when we were at womb.But we have forgotten those things .Why don't you worship at the time of seeing it.This importance have not been teached to any girls .It is such a place you should try to hide, most sacred place also.but it is not taught anywhere either in school,or by parents.

OMG that drives me nut at school there a few Indian girls and they sometimes wear traditional clothing and it shows their belly button but in the school rules it say that you can exspose your belly button and they can't get in trouble cause they might say its racist or something
I mean they could just get a bit more material excepcially the old flaby fat ones who have their nasty glob of a stomach showing
