Are you asking about Xanax (alprazolam)?

Alprazolam is a very short acting benzodiazepine, designed for use in anxious patients. It also has a section of molecule similarly shaped to the tricyclic antidepressants in the hope that it would make them less depressed.

It's moderately addictive and not at all a good long term therapy for anxiety or depression, but seems to be a favourite form of band-aid treatment.

It might help if you spell it right and go to the more appropriate category for the answer.
