I have cable and the reason I dont have satellite is because I cant get DSL where I am at so in order to have broadband internet I am forced to keep the cable, which I am unhappy with by the way.
But dont be fooled by the advertising for the satellite companies either, you really need to research what their plans offer and additional channels, etc... They might be cheaper for basic satellite service but the basic package offers a lot of strange channel choices and the main channels many people watch will be on a different plan which is not nearly as cheap and may not be competitive with cable.

Cable companies are slowly becoming a thing of the past. In order to get a signal to you there has to be cable and lots of it. With cable under or above ground there is maintenance and lots of that too. The cable companies pass the costs onto the customers. That is why cost are continually rising. My choice is satellite all the way. Shop around and get the best deal and watch the contracts, some have a lot of small print. Good luck shopping for a new system. There are lots of deals out there.

It really is up to you, it depends on what is most important to you.
I am in the same situation right, New home ~ Cable or Satellite?
We have Satellite at work (we live on the job site for 7 days then are off work for 7 days). And in bad weather you will lose the signal.
That is usually not a problem except that during bad weather, that's the time you need the information the most.
Cable's reliable but expensive.
If either one is an acceptable option, flip a coin. Let the universe decide.

I had cable tv too forever, but then I moved here across the country w/alot of trees into a house w/o cable running through it, so we have satellite & because of the weather and location, it (satellite) freezes up a bit, and sometimes even has to search for signal. Plus, it doesn't have the on demand features that I had grown accustomed to - so it's really up to you, ask your neighbors that have sattelite and see how they like it, that would really be the only way to tell if it would be okay to get it in your area.

My sister and I have satellite tv, what I don't like about it is that when the weather is inclement, the satellite goes out for sometimes hours. That's something to think about when considering. If you purchase premium channels then satellite may be better. Honestly, You should stick to the absolute basic cable with your local and music channels and just go to Blockbuster or AMC when you really want to see a movie. It's better getting out of the house sometimes.
Good Luck

Here where I live there is no doubt that Dish Network is a better deal. More channels for less money than cable. Don't believe the cable ads claiming dish quits in the rain, it is very rare, maybe once or twice a year in very heavy snow or rain it may go off for 3 minutes.

i had troubles with time warner not adjusting the bill after a bad run with roadrunner. so i'll never go back since the dsl is great in my area. i had Direct TV since 94.. one of the first 10,000 customers. was 700.00 back then. directtv is great only thing now is they charge for your boxes (rent) which is only 5.00. They are going to have many HD channels by end of year so i would wait until their HD channels are up as they will also have a new HD box out. DVR is a must. Must have! after the first year or so you can call them up and say crap like cable in your area is offering free hbo for 6mths and they will give you some free channels.
