has anyone here had a child born with a dislocated hip? if so, after treatment did he or she have anymore leg problems? my daughter was born with a dislocated hip and knee (genetic problem... father and grandmother had it, too... only a lot worse.) she had to wear a harness for 12 weeks and just got out of it a couple of weeks ago. the ultrasound showed that everything looked good. i am concerned about future problems though. she goes back for an x ray at 6 months.
her condition is called larsen's syndrome... only a very mild version of it. her father's was a lot worse. both of his knees and hips were dislocated and he had clubbed feet.

I had a little girl in my daycare for several years who was born with a dislocated hip. She is now 6 years old and has had no further problems from it. She was in a harness until she was 8 weeks old, and when she got it off she always laid with her legs spread like she still had the harness on. When she was able to sit up...not until she was about 8 months old, she sat with her legs spread too. But by the time she was 1 she was able to pull herself up normally and was walking just like any other baby by 13 months. Hope this helps and best of luck!!

My cousins son had a dislocated hip also. His problem though was caused during birth, not a genetic disorder. He wore the harness for about 3 months also. He is now 7 years old and you would never know that he ever had a problem. His problem though was just that it dislocated during birth.

I saw this with the girl I used to nanny for. She actually was in casts, not a harness for three months. She is perfectly fine today (at age 12) and you would never know. She does have to go to the doctor every year or two for new x-rays to make sure everything is ok. I think her problem was really severe at birth, but you'd never know.

It is no big deal for him right now, but it needs to be corrected so that his femur and femoral head grows properly and he isn't gimpy as an adult, a Pavlik harness does wonders at his age and if it is not corrected surgery has to be done around 1 year and then a cast is placed covering both hips and thighs. Really, no big deal.

Oh my goodness! Umm.. I would go to a site like Web MD. Your childs' doctor should have covered all this with you already. I hope everything turns out well. You could also always get a second opinion just to make sure.
