In one hour, the distance has reduced to 380-50 = 330 miles.
330/(50+60) = 3 so the final answer is 4 hours

ching and phil meet at time = t
ching travels t hours
phil travels t - 1 hours

since velocity = distance / t
distance = velocity x t

ching travels 50 mi/hr x t
phil travels 60 mi/hr x (t-1)
total distance = 380 miles

since total distance = distance ching travels + distance phil travels.

380 = 50t + 60(t-1)
380 = 50t +60t -60
440 = 110t
t = 4 hours.

t = 3 h

By the time Phil starts from LA Ching has travelled X = 50 x 1h= 50 miles. So he will be 330 miles from LA when Phil starts

Thus if t is the time for them to croos you must have 330 -50t = 60t ==> 330 = 110t ==> t = 3 hour

They reduce their distance by 110 miles (50+60) each hour, right? So divide 330 (380-50) by 110 to get 3 hours.

relative velocity between them is 110 mi/h
for easy solution,let us assume the ideal case that phil is at rest and is at 380 miles away from ching.
then apply the formula,
time=distance/speed
time=380/110
time=3.4545 hours

What shapes do you get once you split the sq. with a diagonal? 2 trangles. because of the fact all of us know the sector is a sq., which ability all the facets are equivalent (for this reason, in case you recognize one section, you recognize all the facets). So now you have a trangle with 2 facets equivalent to 60 toes. now you need to use Pythagorean's theorem: A (squared) + B(squared) = C (squared) A and B are your 2 facets after which you in basic terms remedy for C. solid success!
