hollywood changes history too much and nowadays only 20% of the films are worth watching, yet british (no hollywood and low budget films), make top quality movies:-

.28 days later
.lockstock
.snatch
.full monty
.transpotting
.harry potters
.shooters (http://imdb.com/title/tt0328420) quality gangster film for those that haven't seen it
.sex life of the potato men
.football factory
.green street
.shawn of the dead
(list goes on).

why is that?

well if it wasn't for quentin tarantino or steven spielberg who have you got? - pulp fiction/res dogs/back to the futures (classic films).

anything else is silly and too patriotic.

ie:- rambo taking on the whole russian army by himself.

Your opinion is your opinion......there's good ones and bad ones. But I just wanted to add that Borat was an American Film and Harry Potter was written by an English Woman, but produced by Hollywood (Warner Brothers Studios). Plus, you guys only get a small fraction of the movies we get from America. Maybe you guys can start turning out some good ones finally!!! Have a nice day

You are trying to prove your point with anecdotal evidence.
No matter how long your list is, you would need to compare it
with a similarly derived American list.

And there are lots of good American movies too.

I agree there is a lot of crap - but none of the studios produce
movies that they think are more likely than not to not make a profit
on. That is, they make what they think will be consumed.

If you want a reason why any particular demographic has
different kinds of movies, you can be sure its because that
same demographic has different tastes.

I think that you need to do more research on this. I do agree that some american movies are not worth the time of day, but it is a small percentage. I can hardly believe that "Sex Life of the Potato Men" is a top quality British movie. The title alone would not attrack my attention.

They may have had British directors but 10 out of those 12 movies had American producers a.k.a. the decision makers.

So ive got a better question, Why are you such a narrow minded fool?

A) Crap is entirely subjective.

B) Shawn of the dead?!

C) It isn't Americans. It's Hollywood. We don't claim them.

D) Apparently, an excess of money allows you the chance to do anything regardless of brains.

Your question is really an opinion, and therefore invalid. Check out the films that show up in the Academy Awards, those tend to be quality films.

I will admit that US films play fast and loose with historical facts, but not all briitsh films are top drawer and not all US films are trash.

You need to look for directors rather than subject matter and that will give a better indicator

I wouldn't say they're crap - just differently focused than European films. More close ups, less cinematography.

Some good ones:

Angels In America
The Bird Cage
Everything is Illuminated
