i recieved and invitation to sunday at the square for students admitted to the class of 2011. It says Matthew S. Santirocco cordially invited you and your parents on april 1. Does this mean that i got in to nyu? It doesnt look like an official acceptance but it does say for students admitted to the class of 2011.

No, this is not your official admissions letter. That letter should state clearly whether you got accepted or rejected (it may have other materials with it but there's be a sheet of paper in there that basically says "accepted" or "rejected").

That said, it is possible (and quite likely) that NYU sent two letters out on the same day (your acceptance letter and the invitation letter) but the USPS has delivered one before the other (for whatever reason). Or the acceptance letter got a little lost in the mail by the USPS.

You should call NYU admissions on Monday and ask them about your acceptance status. They may not be willing to tell you over the phone but they would tell you when (and if) they mailed out an acceptance/rejection letter. Also, you may be able to check online for an admissions decision although I assume you already thought of that.

I would contact their admissions office right away to check about this. It sounds promising, but you never know if someone made a mistake in mailing the letter to people who should not have received it. It is certainly worth a phone call.
