WHY because they chose to leave out five of there best players while playing in N.Z in a mickey mouse comp that means nothing ,and the fact they had some serious injuries to key players i.e Andrew symonds(who may or may not play in cup)and Brett lee who is definitely out of world cup.
Australia was prepared to lose a few games in order to try new young players so they could find the right mix for the world cup.and as Ricky ponting said its all about timing your run,you don't want to peak to early.
All teams have form slumps and i don't see anything dodgy as Australia are still the favourites to win on the bookies,they have just beaten England and Zimbabwe in their warm up matches so maybe the preparation they had is starting to work
