Hi Jhoie,

If this is a homework assignment, there is a section devoted to help with homework in the Education and Reference section...But since you posted here, here is a fast synopsis of this 1978 mystery thriller. Michael Gilbert began his professional life as a solicitor, but then began to write fiction. He was one of the founding members of the Association of Crime Writers and quickly made a reputation for himself as the crime writers' crime writer.

Even though "The Empty House" was first published in 1976 and has long been out of print, the plot still seems topical. In brief, A top genetic scientist for the British army recently insured his life for a large sum of money. Shortly thereafter, he drives over the sheer drop of a Devon cliff in what appears to be a suicide attempt. Neither his car nor his body is ever recovered.

It is a real page turner and you can still find used copies floating around. Here are some sources for ordering a copy:

I'm guessing this homework that you haven't done. It would be wrong for me to provide you with an answer - you should read the book yourself and then come up with a synopsis yourself.
