The simplest solution to DST and time zones in the U.S. is not to have any.
People in California are the same time as New York so given the 3 hour difference, the average person in NY would wake up around 6 a.m. and in California the average person would wake up at 9 a.m. (their former 6 a.m.) In Indiana we have had to get use to changing clocks so why would it be such a culture shock to wake at 9 and goto bed around 8 p.m. in CA (the former 11 p.m.) Who cares about the number on the clock?
Is this even a conceivable idea?

I think I needed to add 3 hours to CA making it the former 2 a.m. when most would go to bed at 11.
Who knows, I'm even more confused now. It's a government conspiracy I tell ya!

While time ZONES should be eliminated, changing the time should not - it came from Benjamin Franklin as a conservationist effort. By waking up with the sun, we don't turn on the lights - we don't burn as much fuel as we did before. As a result of this we have saved more energy through this single technique then through all others combined.

No, it is quite conceivable, and probably the way we'll end up
going as globalization continues and we start colonizing
other planets.

It will be interesting to see, however, if people try to regulate
leap seconds, etc ...

That is, if you're not going to try to associate time with the
natural events going on around you, why would you care
if the year always ends up in the same part of the Earth's
orbit?

I think we should leave things alone. Daylight savings time is a pain in the A**. It benefits no one. Not anymore.

Time zones have nothing to do with daylight savings time.
Daylight savings time was supposedly started to give the farmers more daylight to get their work done. But even all of them that i have ever talked to think its a silly idea.
