I had three feeder guppies living in my 2.5 gallon tank and they were totally fine. Apparentally everyone has told you about the male to female ratio. You could probably fit 2 males and 4 females in the tank fine but they usually have babies every 27-28 days. You really will need more tanks. I've been thinking about breeding guppies myself. I have 3 fancy guppies, 3 feeder guppies, and a corydora in my 10 gallon tank *just got it. So excited* Now my 2.5g tank is in my sisters room with her fancy guppy and one of mine *I made sure to let her tank one of mine cause they dont like being alone* If I bred them I wouldnt have room for more tanks. I'd have to make sure to seperate them imedietly so I could try to keep them in the 10g and 2.5g tanks that I have. Oh wow. Sorry I'm rambling on. I think 2 males and 4 females will do the trick for you. Good luck

You can have about 4 guppies in a five gallon. If you have both male and female be prepared to get more tanks, as they multiply like crazy. I have a 60 gallon tank and started with 6 guppies, now I have 2, 60 gallon tanks (males in one females in the other) and 80-100 guppies (all born in my house). So if you choose to keep both male and female I recommend getting an extra tank in the future for population control. Otherwise just get males they get along with each other and are pretty.

The 1" rule is shouldn't apply to any fish species. It doesn't account for fish shape, activity level, feeding by owner, or tank shape (has to do with surface area & O2 and CO2 exchange).

If you use a filter, you would be able to keep about 6-10 total guppies in a 5 gallon. But, if you have male and female fish, you'll be getting lots more than this. To keep 6-10, they would all have to be males. If you want them to have babies, I'd only get 1 male and 2 females, but you'll have to get another (larger) tank to raise the babies.

The old rule is one inch of fish per gallon of water -- but with a good filter system you can improve on that ratio. you should be able to get 10 guppies easily in a 5 gallon tank with a decent filter system. Remember with guppies 2 can quickly become 32 because they breed quickly so have extra tanks ready or buy only male guppies.

the main in all probability case is that your men might overstress the girls persons, except you got a minimum of 6 extra is extra effective, and that they might die. And mutually with your tank length you dont have room for that many. what's on your 50 gallon? no count if that's a community tank you ought to place the guppies in that and use the 5 gallon as a fry tank. some signs and indicators that the girls persons will provide beginning quickly are shifting off by making use of themselves darkening of the strains around the scales and squaring of the tummy, while the sq. up they might desire to drop their fry interior 40 8 hours. as to while the fry can pass with the different fish, as quickly as they're sufficiently vast to no longer slot in the different fishes mouths is the genneral rule for community tanks 4-6 weeks or so on customary.

A good guide to go with when putting fish in a tank is one inch per gallon of water. Keep in mind the size the fish will be when they are full grown.

5 gallons is too small, but if you must, put 3-4 males in. They are pretty. You don't need females. You don't have room for babies anyhow.
