"Picket Lines" are usually a last resort the Union has to obtain a fair standard of living for the workers. Where there is a great deal of anti-union sentiment in a country. you will usually find the gen standards very low, low minimum wage, little or no healthcare benefits, people being forced to work two or three jobs to try and provide a basic standard of living for their families. Usually, in such countries, it is only the rich who can afford to send their children to universities, or companies are family owned and pass them on to their children. Although, it takes capital investment to start a company , it takes labour to make it successful. A person investing their money deserves to make a fair return on that investment, but the person providing the labour is equally entitiled to a fair share of the profits. As Unions are able to raise the standards for their workers, usually the standards for non-union workers will go up, if for no other reason than to keep the "Unions" out. That works for me as long as the worker is making improvments in their standards. Here in Nova Scotia, Canada, which is fairly Union friendly, the minimum wage may only be $7.70 per hour, but when you factor in Medical care & free dental care for Children up to 12 years old, it brings the gen standard up. Sure we pay taxes, but not mimimum wage earners, in fact they receive cheques 4 times a year for the GST taxes they had to pay during the year. Without Unions bringing standards up, they would only receive about 5.25/hr with no medical as in some countries that are driven only for profits for the wealthy. I do not consider Major league Sports Unions as True Unions.

It is not wrong at all. It is not against the law to cross a picket line. It is only wrong in the minds of those who form that picket line, as people who choose to cross work against what they are trying to do. This does not justify the actions of picketers who act very inappropriately toward those who cross.

The reason to not cross a picket line is, the picketers are trying to pressure the business into meeting their demands.

When people continue to patronize the business, it doesn't put that pressure on; they they don't, the company feels it where it hurts, inspiring them to negotiate with their workers to come to an agreement.

I don't find anything wrong with it. Most of the time people who are protesting are highly paid with great benefits and they go on strike over something insignificant that most of the rest of the workforce only wishes they had. If someone else crosses the picket line to take a job the protesters rejected that's called a free market economy. If they want to keep their cushy occupations they should put down their signs, quit their whining and get back to work.

Back in earlier times, you would get beat by an angry mob if you tried to cross the picket line.
People that cross to go to work during a strike are known as "scabs" (not sure where the term came from)
These days people aren't as desperate as the use to be. I mean if you were making 20 bucks an hour and asked to reduce your pay to 18 or loose your job, most are not willing to give it all up.
During the time Jimmy Hoffa was organizing the union, they had nothing to loose so they were more aggressive in their "manipulation tactics"

The people who are protesting are using the only means left at their disposal to improve their working conditions or obtain a raise in pay. They are off payroll until the strike is settled and if "Scabs" or "Union busters" go in to work for less than what they are asking for their efforts are for naught and they may lose their jobs.

First I evaluate the situation. At retail institutions I continuously pass wood lines. I even pass out of my thank you to accomplish that. At different places i'm careful to evaluate the situation first. Union thugs lessen tires, threaten your existence and promise to hint you, discover out the place you reside and threaten to burn your place down and kill your loved ones. i'm going to evade that. I even have had that take place and this is the reason I HATE union thugs. Do Unions relatively think of they're winning human beings over to their section while they have interaction in such habit? they do no longer look to be in basic terms extortionists yet they're terrorists.

out of respect you don't cross the line.
if it wouldn't be for the union our wages would be way down, most people don't realize that.
I'm not a union worker, I have my own business and profit from the union cause they keep the wages and benefits in order
