I know there's no excuse for what Chris Simon did in retaliation, but come on...Hollweg dishes out cheap shots to players on a nightly basis. (Just did against Ryan Malone vs. the Penguins last night) I think Simon finally took a stand to say enough is enough!

I'm not saying what Simon did was right. Im not supporting Simon and I totally agree with the suspension. I'm just saying that it gets old watching these players (like Hollweg) take such cheap shots. Kinda like the whole Bertuzzi-Moore thing.

Oh, please. I live in Denver, and we heard the same thing a couple of years ago.
Someone please explain to me where in hockey's "code of honor" it says, "He checked my teammate too hard, so I'm going to try to take his head off or render him physically unable to play hockey ever again."
What I want to know is, how come Simon's penalty carries over to next season, when Bertuzzi's didn't? And Hollweg is at least going to be able to play again this season, whereas Moore will probably never play again.
As others have said on here, fighting is one thing. The fighting in the NHL is, honestly, the main reason I'm not more than just a casual fan, and why I won't let my son watch, but I understand that dropping the gloves and going at it is how these things are supposed to be addressed.
My feeling is that Simon sent a very different message by swinging the stick. By dropping the gloves, he would have been saying, "You did me and my team wrong, and I'm going to right a wrong." But swinging the stick? That was simple, out-and-out, "I'm going to hurt you, and damn the consequences."
Hollweg might have deserved to get smacked around ... but only that. Swinging the stick was much more personal. Simon *deliberately* made it more personal, and more brutal, than the situation called for.

You were right the first time. There is no excuse for swinging a stick at another player's face. Simon has enough of a record that this should be the FINAL straw.
Obviously, Hollweg didn't change his style as a result.

Hollweg should have been called for boarding against simon and malone (and a host of others). No, he didn't deserve a slash to the face. But it's only a matter of time until he boards someone who gets injured at which point hollweg will get deservedly suspended himself.

The game is physical, but Hollweg's check was a clean check and did not deserve the retaliation shot given by Simon.

No matter what you think of Ryan Hollweg (whom I remember from the Medicine Hat Tigers as a real tough player when he played for that squad), he didn't deserve to be attacked by Chris Simon like that, nor does anyone else.

redwingn…>>>>>he wasn't coming back to face Simon, it was the play it self that came out of the defencive zone and by looking at it Simon was weak in the knees. Simon also has a concussion from this check from behind and he retaliated because the ref's didn't call anything on the hit from behind. what Simon did was wrong but the ref's lost total control of the game and that's what happened.

i do no longer think of Hollweg's hit is worth of a suspension. became into it grimy? human beings can debate that usually. issues like this take place. If a decision became into ignored it became into ignored. recover from it and circulate on. I additionally don't experience that the quantity of Hollweg's harm and the certainty that Simon have been given his suggestions shaken are particularly proper to the suspension. To the guy without id who reported "How can a fulfillment be sparkling if a concussion is the result??? " a wonderfully sparkling, textbook physique verify can nonetheless bring about an harm or a concussion. undergo in suggestions that Scott Stevens open ice verify quite a few years in the past that leveled Lindros and sidelined him with a concussion? you may locate some Flyers followers that disagree yet that became right into a sparkling verify.

NO!!! Hollweg seemed to be coming back to face Simon head on and Simon lost it and swang his stick.I know his parents have told him in the past to "PLAY NICE"Simon did the opposite. That was totally un-called for dropping the gloves would've been the proper thing to do.

to comment on Bertuzzi the European leagues honored the suspension during the lockout and did NOT let him play. 25 games is stiff but should of been more. This is why the instigator needs to go cheaps shots deserve retalation (drop the gloves and lets go) but stick swinging does NOT belong.
