The easiest way to figure this is the last word in your question. Intrusive.

A tubal ligation requires a great deal more intusive work than a vasectomy does. Also, the reversal success rate is higher for vasecomy's than tubals.

I would go to your local Planned Parenthood and get their brochures on these procedures. Attached is their web addy.

Congrats to you both for a brilliant decision. I wish more people were as responsible!!!!! BRAVO!

The description you received about tubal ligation isn't quite right. Yes, it is painful- but it is also PERMANENT. You don't want your tubes tied until you are 100% sure that you are all done with pregnancies. Doctors avoid this surgery if they can. I have had tubal ligation. While it is a painful experience, you aren't supposed to lie in bed for 6 weeks and never hold your kids. You do need to take it easy, but not *that* easy! LOL! They want you to be up and moving around, that makes recovery go much easier and faster. There are also weight lifting restrictions- I think it's 10 lbs during the recovery period, to prevent internal bleeding. Vasectomies are much easier than tubal ligation (pain, recovery time, and cost) and they CAN be reversed. I don't know any specifics though. Personally, I would lean more towards birth control pills, an IUD, or diaphragm. No surgery is ever fun, why do it when you know there will have to be another to turn it around? It just doesn't seem ideal to me. Jmo. Best of luck!

The vasectomy is much less intrusive and has a much shorter recovery time. With a vasectomy he could be back at work the next day! Getting a tubal ligation is a much more difficult surgery with a MUCH longer recovery time. A vasectomy is also a lot less expensive and many insurance providers don't cover much of either of these procedures according to my doctor so if cost is a factor that is something else to consider.

A vasectomy is the most cost effective form of birth control.

If he got a vasectomy on Friday, he would be back to work on Monday. He would be fully functional in 4 days. A vasectomy is quick and simple.

If you choose to get female sterilization, you will be off work for at least 3 weeks, and not fully functional for about three weeks after that. The surgery is much more involved.

Some men have problems. But that is only psychological.

A vasectomy is a piece of cake. It is no more traumatic than a trip to the dentist, or getting a tattoo.

Well, since you didn't have a tubal done while you were on the table after having a baby, I'd say the vasectomy will be your best bet. It's an office procedure, rather than the full surgery of a tubal. I had a tubal, but only because I was already numb from having a baby and I was on the table anyway.

having the vasectomy is easier, less intrusive and less painful (though the man may argue) - though they are able to do tubals quite quickly and with minimal cutting now.

The other thing to think about is this, if for some reason down the road you change your mind- a vasectomy is a lot easier and less expensive to reverse- a tubal is very expensive to reverse and gives very little guarantee once it is reversed.

Either method is not a 100% guarantee that you will not get pregnant again- I have heard of those with tubals getting pregnant and those that have had vasectomies able to have a baby- though both cases as far as I have seen are not common.

I think it's easiest for a man to get the vasectomy b/c it is done in the doctors office, while tubals are done in the hospital....they are much more invasive. Why don't you and your husband both get a consultation with a doctor (you your OB/GYN, hubby a urologist, i think) and compare notes after speaking with the professionals. As an aside, the only women i personally know of who have had tubals are those who had them done at the same time as a c-section.

Vasectomy. It is by far the less intrusive, as he will not have to have his abdomen wall breached.

Another note....you went through the pain and hardship for around 2 years to carry, deliver and recover from the pregnancies. I'm not knocking him, as he couldn't help the amount of participation in the pain/suffering, but maybe he should offer up to go through it and give you a break.

His vasectomy can be done in office versus your tubal ligation having to be done in a hospital...his is also way less intrusive...

A vastectomy is easier done compared to you getting your tubes tied.
He can get the procedure done in a doctor's office whereas you will have to have surgery but you would have it done as outpatient and be home the same day but i think it would be much easier for the man to do it.
A man should want to do it after you have done with through 2 births and all of that pain.
Good luck
