We think our 18 month old threw something down into the toilet and flushed it. Whenever it was flushed the water would rise up really high but wouldn't overflow. We snaked it....and a bolt came up. But now whenever the toilet is flushed the water disapears and won't stay in the bowl. Can anyone give me some insight on whats wrong and how much it may cost. We don't have our own sewage system.

Thanks

Please clarify the problem. In the USA: The bowl is the part of the toilet you sit on. The tank is on top of the bowl. What part does not hold water? If the bowl does not hold water at all, you have a cracked bowl and it needs to be replaced. New toilets are $100 up to $400 for a really good one.

If it is the tank that does not hold water, check the flapper valve and make sure the flapper is closing fully against the opening to the bowl. After a few years of use, the flapper gets distorted or worn out, and water leaks by it. They can be replaced for less than $10

I have no idea what the bolt could be from but my guess is it came from the snake. There are no bolts inside the toilet, if you damaged the toilet with the snake it would be obvious. The first thing I would check is inside the toilet tank itself, from the top of your fill valve there should be a small hose about 1/4 inch in dia. This hose should be inserted into a tube that is about 1" in dia. Check to see if this hose is where it is supposed to be and that it has water coming out of it when the toilet is flushed. If it isn't this would cause the toilet bowl not to re-fill after flushing.

Try a plunger, it may still be plugged partially.

My toilet was clogged and I tried the toilet auger and drano, and it helped a little. I had to breakdown and call a Drain and Sewer company on friday. He went in through the drain system by the water meter in the laundry room and it took 20 mins. if that for $115.00. He used a motorized auger. Next time this happen, I will be going to Home Depot and rent a motorized auger. It works the same as hand -held auger but can go futher in the drain to push down the obstuctive object throw the pipes. The $115.00 cost was in the Midwest, and I still wondering was it the true cost, because when I asked him the cost he hesitated and asked me what cost did the reception stated. (Which no price was quote to me when I scheduled the repair). Now I know for future reference to ask upfront. Good Luck and I hope this help.

Take the cover off the tank, inside on the bottom of the tank you'll see a black flapper which holds your water maybe it's not seating properly because of sand or sediment from your water, flush the toilet and with the tank empty you should be able to wipe it clean or adjust it so it will seat better. Don't worry the water is clean, it's the same water you drink from your tap. good luck Les the painter

Open the top of the tank flush and watch the tank as it fills.Make sure stopper at the bottom is not leaking by.also check an make sure the float is not stuck in closed position. You problem is in the tank not the bowl.Alsomake sure chain that attaches stopper to flushing hand is not too tight that will hold up the stopper.

What do you propose by making use of "all long previous"? the recent lavatories use much less water then older fashions. element of the decreased utilization is that the status point interior the bowl is probable much less then you certainly may be used to. you ought to nevertheless have some water point on your bowl although to cover the trapin the lavatory and shop sewer gasses from escaping. in case you rather do have all of the water draining out of the lavatory, the 1st element i might have checked is your vent line on the lavatory. If the vent is blocked, the siphon consequence once you flush the lavatory ought to pull any extra water from the lavatory. yet i might think of the flush of the lavatory may be "slow" with the vent plugged. you won't be waiting to word it with the recent lavatory.

Call a plumber. The snakes you can use by hand will not do the job like the electric snakes plumbers have. No one can tell you how much it will cost because plumbers prices are different in cities and regions.
